Western Union in Istanbul, Turkey

For reasons I have yet to understand, alot of people seem to be finding the blog through Google searches for Western Union branches in Istanbul. So, as a service to yabanjees looking to send or receive remittances in this lovely city, here is a short, to the point guide on how Western Union works in Istanbul.

The only authorized Western Union agents in Istanbul are banks.

Finans Bank, the most reliable bank for Western Union transfers in Istanbul.

The most reliable bank for Western Union remittances has been, in my experience, Finans Bank. Their phone number is 0850 222 0 900. To the right is their logo.

If for whatever reason you can’t get to a Finans Bank branch, try a branch belonging to Akbank. Their phone number is 444 2525. This is what their logo looks like. akbank

If you still cant find a branch for either of these two banks, then try Garanti Bank. Their phone number is 444 0 333. This is what their logo looks like. garanti bank

Important: Bring either your passport or your Turkish Residency Booklet. If you are receiving money, your name on the remittance has to be exactly as it is spelled in your ID.

Also, some branches have been known to lose their connection to the Western Union network during the day. Ask at the branch before waiting in a queue whether the Western Union service is working.

You’re most welcome.
